First flowers.

The first flowers I've ever grown from bulbs. Or from anything.

Garden & Turtle.

So, we got a Turtle. And my garden might be on steroids.

And all is wet and cool here. I hope summer kicks in soon. I have been wearing dresses nearly every day in a lame attempt at optimism. I even walked to the mailbox barefoot in the rain, just to show the weather who's boss. (As you know, I control everything.)

The story of our Turtle:

The original turtle that started it all. We were so taken with this turtle at the Arboretum, we decided to go to the pet store to see if they had pet turtles (which I didn't even know existed). We were bummed when we got there and they didn't have any. But they did have......
kittens from the Humane Society. So now we have a kitten called Turtle.
The dogs love her and she loves them. I am learning not to be scared of her spontaneity. I think I am starting to get a taste of how people feel about me. (When will I pounce? When will I be chill? When will I hide and be grouchy?)

And my garden is growing at top rate speed. Tomorrow I am going to harvest some lettuce and spinach for eating and thin the carrots before they get too much bigger. I tried my own theory of gardening: plant all the seeds and see what happens. And things are happening. We'll see how this all turns out. The great garden experiment.

Hope you are well.

First Fruits...

My gardens have been growing beautifully and it excites me to no end.

Out front we have planted strawberries and lavender in planters and this morning the most exciting thing happened ...... a strawberry was ready to be picked and eaten. And so we did just that. Ryan and I split the wee little thing and it was very tasty.

It makes me so happy that we can grow and eat our own food. The lettuce is getting close to eat-able and the peas are growing superbly.

Enjoy your day....

DiaBday Party!

It's been one year (and a bit) since I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, so to tell Diabetes to suck it we had a party. Complete with candy and crowns.

Thanks to everyone who made this past year so much better than I thought it could be.

Spring.

While Spring is not my favorite season or my second favorite or my third, it is my fourth favorite -- which makes it pretty spectacular. And it is rolling in quite nicely. Everything is in bloom and this weekend we will be putting together my veggie gardens. Even the grey days are lovely and the blustery wind is probably moving seeds around so more things can grow in new, surprising places. Hello, spring.

More of the same....

More Lake Washington on a beautiful spring day.

Even the city is in bloom. Downtown Seattle on a crisp Spring day.

oops.

So, I guess it's been a while, huh?

Well, new tactic.... pictures! Everybody loves looking at pictures and I take enough to stock 13 Costco stores, so I'm going to try to update with photos and the occasional word or two.

I hope you enjoy! I think this will be more manageable than my previous attempts.

A little springtime.
